Cut a cooking (or sweet) apple into cubes. Place in a saucepan with knob of butter and a dessertspoon sugar. Heat until the sugar has melted, then turn up the heat and toss the apple around until barely cooked. Meanwhile, toast a slice of barm brack, tea brack, or any fruity, bread-like confection. Top with the apple and serve with cream if you dare, but it really needs nothing at all.
