Chocolate available in Ireland seems to get better and better as consumers increasingly appreciate the best. My survey in today’s Irish Examiner is just a small sample of what I found was best on offer. No doubt I missed plenty, but we can only feature eight. I still love simple bars made by people such as Shana Wilkie who imports here own beans to make deliciously fresh and full tasting chocolate and gives backward integration a run for its money. Not until we grow chocolate beans here will we be able to claim any chocolate as fully Irish, but what is imported at different stages of production is often used very well for our delectation. Attached are the current choices of a very willing band of tasters.
